I’ve heard so many different versions of the story of Henny-Penny that I’m not sure if she ever made it to see the king or not. I just know that in her distress that the sky was falling, going to see the king was the first solution that came to her little chicken mind--and that her unfortunate friends supported her every step of the way, possibly right into the fox’s den.

Falling Skies

“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” –Psalm 18:6NIV

Imagine feeling like Henny-Penny and wanting to share your distress with the president. I‘m pretty sure that he cares about our concerns, but he’s only one person after all. Like Moses serving the Israelites (Exodus 18:13-26), he only has time for the gravest of issues--issues that impact the nation as a whole. When our personal skies are falling, we must seek solace and solutions from a more accessible source.

Amazingly enough, the most accessible Source is the highest of all. When we call on God, we don’t have to worry about crafty foxes or miles of sticky red tape. Our cries go straight to God’s ears--into His ears, in fact. The very God who gives presidents, kings, and emperors their authority on Earth knows of our distress and hears our calls for help.

When panic grabs your heart, talk to God immediately. Reflect on the love that makes Him available to you; then let Him bathe your soul in peace.

Divine Master, thank You for hearing me whenever and always about every little thing. My falling skies are in Your Hands. Amen.
