How did they feel?
Laying Him in the darkened tomb
Where no one was yet laid
Wrapped in linen cloths
In a grave cut from jagged rock
Carrying His lifeless body
The One who once made the blind to see
The One who healed all ills and pain
Before whom demons trembled
As He cast them out!
How did they feel?
Laying down this man from Galilee
Upon whom descended a dove
As a voice from heaven called from above
‘This is My Beloved Son. In Him I am well pleased.’
Before whom seas were stilled, the dead were raised
The One who loved the loveless and the lost
The One who spoke with authority
Now lifeless, cold, and still He lay
How did they feel?
On Preparation Day before the Sabbath
Gathering spices and sweet perfumes
To lay around about Him
Trembling in pain and tears
Returning distraught on the third day
To discover a great stone rolled away
Dawn skies afire with angel presence
Bowed low by blinding light
They remembered His words
"The Son of Man must be
Delivered into the hands of sinful men
Be crucified and on the third day
Rise again!"
And like prisoners set free
From darkest doom
They ran with joy proclaiming
The Resurrected Lord
Abandoning in praise, an empty tomb!
